AI Ads

What will we get when AI has been fully utilized as a marketing medium?

Marketing on AI

AI has eyeballs. Now what does it need? Ads.

It's coming. Of course, it is. Building AI models is expensive. They need a way to recoup investment and create some (ick!) stickiness with vendor partners.

When will the ad model make its way to AI? Maybe it already has, and I'm unaware.

Guillermo is already seeing many new customers come from AI referrals. Has this relationship been made official yet through a referral program?

ChatGPT now refers 10% of new @vercel signups, which have also accelerated

This is a significant lead funnel. Vercel would pay good money for this.

We're going to get all sorts of product placement. What framework is best for that? What platform best suited for this? Show me how to config my infrastructure as code. Ka-ching! Subscriptions will be ringing.

Ad-free alternative

And if I want an AI that feeds me more "objective" takes, what do I do? Probably run your own model, or something like that.

Maybe I'll be able to pay more for the ad-free tier?

Maybe, but almost more likely, I won't even know. I'll be getting tilted results, and I won't be told. Whether that's trained into the base layer, instructional layer or otherwise, I'll be cooked.

Data provenance in an AI sophisticated as this? It's not being done for copyright, why would they be more likely to track and report seller influence? Chat bots be chattin'.

Ubiquitous Marketing

If AI will be in everything, like cranberry juice, then everything will have ads. It's just another marketing channel, and it's one that everyone wants to integrate with their products as fast as possible. And it's so hot right now. All those eager eyeballs.

Google started as a non-evil inverted index of the world's information. Now it looks more like a billboard for sellers of whatever.

The potential for money is great enough in AI that it's an easy bet that ads are coming, if they're not here already we just don't know about it.
